8 Life Lessons I’ve Learned From Journaling

Journaling with Court - Part 1

You know those teenagers that would spend countless hours writing in their diary? Well, that was me. As an adult, nothing has changed. I still wake up every morning and journal. Now, instead of pages filled with childhood crushes and high school drama. My pages are brimming with thoughts on life’s meaning and emotions I’m eager to decipher. This past June, I celebrated another year. Another 365 days of journaling. In honor of this milestone, I wanted to share with you, 8 things I’ve learned over a lifetime of journaling. And yes, I still have all of my old journals. They are safely hidden.

  1. Sometimes you have to write it out.

Writing it out can help you work through what you may be feeling. For me, it’s easier to sort through things on pen and pad vs. my mind.

  2. Journaling is a safe space where you can be candid about your emotions.

It’s just you, your pen and your journal. Be honest with yourself.

3. It allows you the room to look back on things that once stressed you out and reflect on how they were resolved.

It can sharpen your faith.

4. There’s room for all of your feelings and all of them are valid.

Through journaling, I’ve learned that all of your feelings can exist at the same time. The good and the bad are happening to you simultaneously. Allow room for all of them.

5. You have a story to tell.

Every single one of us has a story to tell. Start writing your story down. Plus I love re-reading old entries about my dreams/passions and seeing how they’ve come to fruition. Even when they haven’t, they serve as an inspiration to keep going.

6. It gets your creative juices flowing.

You’d be surprised how many times my creative juices started flowing once I started journaling. I’ve had so many random ideas come to me while writing.

7. Manifestation works.

The power of manifesting deserves its own separate post. In the meantime, journaling your wants allows you to dream. By writing it down and making it plain, you start manifesting those things into a reality.

8. Be mindful of your energy and thoughts.

Protect your mind. Protect your spirit. Protect your energy. Writing it out can help you see what your frequent thoughts are. What you’re constantly telling yourself. From there, you can decide what you want to shift and change.

Journaling is one of my favorite parts of the day. When I don’t do it, I notice a huge shift in my day. Next up, to help you with your process to journaling. I’ll be doing an in-depth post on how you can start journaling. I’ll Include the different types of journals, when and where you should journal, a supply list, and more.

Let’s write, heal, and grow together.

Love,

Courtney
