How To Create A Work Vision Board
We’ve all been there. It’s one of those weeks where you just can’t seem to finish anything on your to-do list. You’re getting no’s on top of no’s. No job offers are coming in. Or you’re stuck at a job that you hate. Your boss is driving you nuts and your dream of becoming an entrepreneur is slipping further and further again. I’ve been there before.
When days like this are knocking on my door, I try everything in my power to fight off the negative feelings. Sometimes, they get the best of me. Sometimes they don’t. One thing I’ve done to help me stay focus is to create a work vision board. As a multi-creative person, seeing all of my dreams and wants on paper helped me visualize them better. Specifically, one of my mentors advised me to make a career vision board. One dedicated to all of my work goals. Personally, on my career vision board, I wrote down all of the goals I’d like to accomplish and when I’d like to accomplish them by. I also planned out where I see my career going long term. (Yes, I’m that girl. Leave me alone!)
Let’s dive into how you can make a career vision board.
Step One. Set the mood. Light your candles and put on your favorite playlist.
Step Two. Take a moment to decide what it is you want from your career. Reflect on where you are and where you’d like to go. Allow yourself to dream loudly and wildly. Go big! There are no limitations.
Step Three. Choose your materials. I prefer to use oak-tag. However, some other options are cork boards, digital boards, or even supersize sticky posters. I also use a mix of magazines and print images from Google.
Step Four. Choose a variety of images that represent where you see yourself going. If you want to become a tv host, you should have images of tv hosts on your board. If you’re dreaming of owning an office space, include images of that. Make sure you’re picking things that speak to you.
Step Five. Include affirmations, texts, or buzz words that will inspire you in.
Step Six. Arrange the pictures or words by sections. I personally did mine, by topic, and year. You can section them by work goals, awards, education, or finances. Or if you have different goals for your career or your side hustles, section them by that. Whatever works for you.
Step Seven. Take a picture of the board or write the date on the back. This will serve as a reminder of when you made the board. (One day you will back and be amazed by how much you’ve grown!)
Step Eight. Put it in a space you will look at every single day. If you can, make it your sacred space. During your morning routine, you should spend time looking at your vision board and visualizing your future.
One of the main purposes of creating a vision board is to start attracting the things you want in life. When you start envisioning yourself in a certain way, you become closer to that vision. As corny as it may sound, if you can see it, you can achieve it.
Happy Dreaming!
