How I Pull Myself Out Of A Funk

We’ve all been there. A bad morning turns into a bad day, a bad day turns into a week. For some odd reason, we just can’t seem to shake the funk. We stay in bed longer than usual or have no energy to do simple tasks. Now with everything going on in the world, the funks seem to be more frequent than usual. Below I’ve compiled together a list of different activities I do to pull myself out of a funk. Sometimes, I only have to do one or two of them. Other times, it takes a full day or 2 or 3 to get there. Find one that fits you and use it.

1. Read a motivational book or watch an uplifting tv show or film.

2. Go for a long walk or drive.

3. Talk to a friend, family member, or trained professional.

4. Sweat it out.

Running or a good dance session around my apartment does the trick for me.

5. Sing it out.

6. Let yourself feel all of the emotions.

7. Scream into a pillow and/or cry it out.

Release some of that built up energy.

8. Make a gratitude list.

9. Write out several affirmations on post its.

Put them someplace where you’ll see them every day.

10. Hold your heart and try a breathing exercise.

This is one of the first things I learned in therapy. I put my hands over my heart, close my eyes, and breathe slowly.

11. Get dressed up and have a photoshoot.

12. Schedule some much need me time. Get a pedicure, shave, whatever you need to do.

If you need more self-care ideas, read this post.

13. Write it out.

Journaling has changed my life for the better.

14. Unplug from social media.

15. Change your surroundings.

16. Pay attention to what is triggering you.

17. Clean up.

18. Bake or cook something.

19. Pour yourself into a project or a hobby.

20. Laugh!

Funny dog and cat videos do the trick for me.

I know things can get tough. Stay the course and push through. Things will get better.

Love,

Courtney
